The 5 W’s…or an introduction to the 3 F’s!

Hi!

Thanks for taking a peek at our brand new blog. In the coming days and weeks this will be the place to head for all Fabulous Frost Fair gossip and updates!

Expect lots of pretty pictures, some top secret offers and perhaps the odd competition or two but, before we launch into showcasing some of the wonderful brands and businesses that are appearing at the event, we wanted to introduce ourselves and tell you a little about how we got here…

To keep things simple, we’re using the good old 5 W’s method which my old English teacher instilled in us for essay writing, once taught, never forgotten hey!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHO:
Team FFF is made up of me 3 Wonderful Wirral Women (WoWiWo) in our 30’s who enjoy a giggle, a gossip and a glass of the good stuff.
When we aren’t busy organising this incredible Christmas Event, we all have other jobs, mummy duties and other halves to attend to! Busy busy hey?!
Obviously, organising a 3 day event such as this takes a huge amount of effort and expertise and so we are really pleased to have the full backing of the events team at Hillbark Hotel, the fantastic Laura at Showpony PR and the incredible Emma from Love Ink Design. If you are looking for someone to develop a brand for you- look no further, she’s your gal!
WHY:
I have always loved Christmas.
As a child it was magical, as a teen it was tipsy but now as an adult it is full on stress!!
Having visited so many beautiful Christmas fairs whilst living in London and the South East when I moved back to the Wirral with my family I wanted to attend something similar. I couldn’t find what I was looking for and so, I decided to create it myself! I spoke to my sister and friends and we decided to go for it and I am so so pleased we did.
~~~~~~~~~~

WHAT:

The Fabulous Frost Fair is THE place to be this Christmas.

A 3 day event with over 40 stalls of beautiful hand crafted products, food and drink in a stunning location.

We feel that we have created the perfect event for you to enjoy with friends and family whatever their age or interests.

Each of the days is geared towards a particular group so, have a look and see which day suits you, or come for all 3!

We can’t wait to welcome you.

Saturday 10am-6pm

Sunday 10am-4pm

The Fabulous Frost Fair is at the 5* Hillbark Hotel and Spa. The perfect backdrop for an event such as this. It’s the final countdown!

With under a week to go until Soraya, Ali and myself take up weekend residence at beautiful Claremont Farm it is all systems go with every member of team FFF.

Our exhibitors are busy creating, Andrew, Barney and the team at Claremont have been busy finishing off the event space and the car park and we are busy putting together the Friday night goody bags and generally doing everything in our power to make sure that the event runs smoothly and leaves everyone feeling fuzzy, festive and the absolute opposite of frazzled; in short, feeling like you’ve had the perfect start to your festive season!

Just a couple of pointers for you to take into consideration when planning your visit (I know we sound dreadfully school Ma’am but…fail to prepare and all that!!)

FRIDAY NIGHT

The Friday night coach which was kindly funded by the Delightful team at The Devon Doorway is now FULL. There are still limited tickets left for the launch event and it is going to be a wonderful evening with canapes, prosecco, goody bags, a brilliant raffle for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, entertainment from Vox Pop choir and a few surprises in the mix too.

Last year was a sell out and this year looks set to be the same so please don’t wait- get a group together, book a taxi and come along to join the fun and be the first to see what our excellent exhibitors have got on offer plus the brand new event space at Claremont.

As with the whole weekend, the stalls and activities are both in doors and out so come dressed for the weather (but if you don’t we know several gorgeous stalls that could sort you out with something…nothing says Christmas like cashmere!)

champagne

SATURDAY

There will be a FREE park and ride operating all day from Clatterbridge Hospital to Claremont so please make use of this. Parking at the farm will only be available for blue badge holders or patrons of the shop. We would advise that you walk down if you can or take advantage of the park and ride or public transport- I know a few people have already decided on this as both Whitmore and White Wine Tastings are SOLD OUT and the Hunters Gin in association with Gusto Heswall are heading that way fast too so make sure you book your slot now to avoid disappointment!

Don’t fret about being fed- there is a brilliant variety of food stalls selling hot and cold food to eat there or take home from crepes to wood fired pizza’s, tea and cake to turkey batches we can guarantee you won’t go hungry and there’s mulled wine, Britmans beers and more to whet your whistle!

There are a few spaces left on our workshops but they are limited– I would dearly love to be able to while away a few hours decorating cupcakes, building my dream gingerbread house or knocking up a gorgeous Christmas wreath for the door but alas it is not to be but don’t you miss out- you’ll get to feel smug for a month looking at your creations (only if it’s the wreath, the cakes won’t last beyond that evenings Strictly!)

cupcakes

SUNDAY

As mentioned above, please think park and ride- we really don’t want people to be frustrated by a lack of parking at Claremont so are doing all we can to minimise that potential disruption so we would appreciate your cooperation with that.

Father Christmas looks set to have a busy day- he is with us between 10-4 and will be meeting and greeting groups of children with their parents throughout the day- you can select your own time slots so queueing shouldn’t be an issue but there are only 12 slots in each session and several are now fully booked so we would strongly recommend you reserve your slot now.

You could easily spend a day at the fair on Sunday with the family- there is so much going on; Jude Lennon will be bringing her own brand of Lamby magic, telling super stories throughout the day and Jackie and Lisa from Creation Station will be helping kids to unleash the glitter with their drop in activities too. sunday

The childrens workshops are proving popular (there seems to be a theme here) so if you’re little ones are green fingered make sure you book them on to the Christmas table decoration class with Rebecca and Rose. The cup cake class is a real must too- they’ll take home 4 of their own cupcakes and you get 90 minutes to yourselves…what a bonus!

sunday2

Hopefully all of the details you need can be found on our website, Facebook page or Twitter account but feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions and we will do our best to help.

One last important thing to remember is to bring cash with you on the day– though a great many of our exhibitors use mobile apps to take payments that is not a given and, when large numbers of people attempt to use wifi it can not be relied upon for card machine payments- We’ve all been frustrated when shops wave around those machines in our faces haven’t we?! . There are no cash machines on site and though several exhibitors accept cheques or deposits for larger items we wouldn’t want you to leave disappointed or not be aware.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Claremont for this years Fabulous Frost Fair, tell your friends, tell your family and get together at FFF15, we’re all you need for the Perfect Christmas.

Love,

Soraya, Tanya and Ali.

What we have in store for #FFF15

I fully appreciate that it is August, we are slap bang in the middle of the Summer holidays (though it’s not always clear from the weather) and it is far too soon to be talking about Christmas but…just in case you ARE interested- I thought we’d give you an update on what we’re planning for this years Fabulous Frost Fair Event. If you’re not already familiar with FFF, our website tells you all about who we are and why we set up. If you like the sound of it- and we really hope you do- don’t forget to share on Facebook and tag in everyone you fancy coming along with- the more the merrier!

VENUE:

Ok so, first things first- Our new home. We loved our first event at Hillbark hotel last year- it is an absolutely beautiful space and the marquee was the perfect spot for our exhibitors…so perfect that we filled it with 43 amazing stalls! We were so pleased that so many people visited and enjoyed themselves and with enquiries from new exhibitors literally breaking our inbox, we had to find somewhere bigger…

Claremont Farm was the obvious answer. With Andrew and the team so supportive of the shop local ethos as well as the idea of community and raising much needed funds for 2 fantastic local charities we are over the moon to be hosting #FFF15 on their turf.

Claremont Farm

Not a bad view from the farm shop

This year there will be more of a Christmas market theme with outdoor chalets selling food and drink- think cheeses, mulled wine, mince pies and cracking crepes as well as beautiful burgers, craft beers and Christmas trees!

Claremont Farm

No spindly branches here.

We have also been able to expand the number of exhibitors from 43 to 60 which means a wider selection of gifts, homeware, clothing for adults and children as well as award winning cookies, light as a feather cupcakes, heavenly chocolate and the all important Christmas Turkey.

The Weekend:

Our launch evening on The Friday is absolutely ideal for your work night out or end of term Christmas get together- don’t worry about drawing straws to see who’ll be the designated driver; you can be picked up and dropped off from various Wirral venues (we’ve thought of everything!)

Once you arrive you’ll be treated to live music, fizz and a goody bag. There is also a giving tree with some fantastic prizes and of course the opportunity to have the first exclusive look at all of the stalls. You might even be rubbing shoulders with some celebs!

Saturday and Sunday are peppered with delightful demonstrations and wonderful workshops- we are adding to the programme all the time so feel free to offer suggestions but here are a few to whet the appetite;

For the grown ups;

  • Wreath Making with a wonderful company- Rebecca & Rose
  • Wine and Cheese Pairing with Cheshire Mersey Wine School
  • A Very Vegan Christmas
  • Christmas Cake Decoration

For the little ones;

  • Free Crafts with the (frankly phenomenal) Jackie from The Creation Station.

the-creation-station

  • Free Story time with the lovely (and award winning) Jude from Little Lamb Tales

LITTLE LAMB TALES

  • Bauble painting
  • Cake making

There will also be some extremely special guests visiting us on the Sunday…they are friends of Father Christmas and they’re furry!!!

reindeer

Father Christmas will be spending the day at Claremont on Sunday so don’t forget to pop in to see him and give him your Christmas wish list- just make sure you’ve been nice and not naughty!

There is so much more we’ve got to tell you but what is Christmas without a few surprises…

If you want to be the first to know about flash ticket sales, competitions and anything else happening at #FFF please sign up for our emails- we promise not to spam you!

See you in 105 sleeps!

Thanks for your support.

Lots of love,

US!

PS- We would really love to hear your thoughts and feedback on our plans because we want you to have an amazing time. We want to provide classes and demonstrations that you’ll enjoy. We want to be the best Christmas Event in the region so share what makes Christmas for you and we’ll make sure we add it to our very own Christmas list!

You can leave a comment on the blog or on our Facebook page, tweet us or email us- we love feeling loved!

A long overdue THANK YOU!

Behind the scenes of Fabulous Frost Fair 2015 #FFF15 things are already getting busy.

We are reviewing last years event and considering how to develop and improve, trawling through applications from exhibitors for this years event as well as looking into demonstrations, workshops and fun children’s activities; all with the aim of supporting local businesses and charities and creating a wonderful, luxurious, festive, event bringing family and friends together to spend some quality time amidst the madness of the season.

Given that Ali, Soraya and myself (not to mention our excellent exhibitors) put so much time and effort into the event it was a very welcome surprise to receive an email from Wirral Tourism Awards 2015 and this is what it said…

It is with great pleasure that I am writing to let you know that The Fabulous Frost Fair has been shortlisted as a finalists for ‘Event of the Year’ in this year’s Wirral Tourism Awards.

The winner of the award will be announced at the Tourism Awards Dinner at The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton on Wednesday 15th April 2015….

And here is what we said…

WHOOP WHOOP!!! Oh my word, Shortlisted, in our first year, Can you believe it?!

Obviously, we’re up against some serious competition but, this feels like a huge pat on the back for team #FFF so we just wanted to say;

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT, WE COULDN’T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT…

Our family and friends that needed photographs of the three of us to remember what we looked like
The team at Hillbark, particularly Sarah and Helen were wonderful. Helpful, polite and everything you’d expect from a 5* venue.

Smylies who provided the funds for our flyers and marketing material as well as the choccys that Father Christmas doled out. It is absolutely no wonder that you were award winning in 2014 and we hope that 2015 is even better for you.

Katie from The Celebration Tent who provided Santa’s Grotto absolutely free of charge. Nothing was too much trouble and I am sure it was you who ordered the sunny weather!!

Our absolutely brilliant, brilliant volunteers from The Wirral Rotary and Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. Nothing would have run as smoothly without you. Your patience, willingness to turn your hand to whatever we needed and genuine kindness was lovely.

To every person that donated an advent Calendar or some items for the food bank and everyone that purchased a raffle ticket or an item from the charity table we are really grateful.
We took over 28kgs of food down to the Wirral Foodbank, I needed a trolley to transport it all.
The FFF raised £1,710.02 which, with our donation of £2000 means over £3,700 going to an incredibly important cause. Hopefully, next year we’ll raise even more.

I think it’s important to point out at this stage that the Fabulous Frost Fair did not make a profit. We aren’t going to be skipping off to Boodles with your hard earned cash.
We achieved our objectives which were threefold;

1) to encourage families and friends to spend time together

2) To support local businesses and keep cash in our community

And

3) To support local charities The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Wirral Food Bank so that hopefully everyone in our area enjoyed a slightly merrier Christmas.

So, for us that is success (but winning would be most welcome too!)

We can’t wait for November…it’s going to be Fabulous (naturally!)

With lots of love

#FFFLiverpool

We’re heading over the Water for #FFFLiverpool

It’s an exciting day for us at #FFF Towers. Today, I am working in an actual office, with actual people instead of sitting in my spare room with only Jeremy Vine for company. HOORAY!!

I have been missing the buzz of our brilliant Wirral event so, the best way to combat that was to set up the next one…

Hence, here I am on a proper office chair, working with the team at Active Profile to finalize our Fabulous Frost Fair Pop Up; #FFFLiverpool.

FFF (2)

Based on the ground floor of English Cities fund’s (ECf’s) No 4 St Paul’s Square and in the square itself, on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th December,  we will be bringing our unique brand of Christmas Cheer to all local businesses and visitors in the commercial district and anyone else that would like to come and get involved.

The St Paul’s Square’s version of the ‘Fabulous Frost Fair’ is perfectly tailored for the surrounding businesses and corporate audiences, providing a selection of specialist gifts, festive food and drink, as well as finishing touches including cards, ribbon and gift wrap. It is the perfect place to pick up Christmas presents and treats in between meetings, at lunchtime and after work- that’s bound to get you on Santa’s good list!

The Fabulous Frost Fair is part of the BID Company’s Thursday and Alive After Five Christmas programme, the highlight of which is the family free event – The Snowflake Trail, which runs until December 28.

The festive feeling will be enhanced by the Commercial District Carol Concert with the Lord Mayor which takes place on Wednesday lunchtime at St Nicholas Church and carols in the Square on the Thursday.

carols

We are welcoming back some of our original exhibitors from the Wirral event as well as introducing some new names such as We Write for You who offer a brilliant take on all things Liverpool and Eponine Patisserie who make the most mouth watering mince pies and chocolates. With 25 stalls there is bound to be something perfect everyone!

we write for you

Bill Addy, Chief Executive of Liverpool BID Company, said:

‘’I’m delighted St Paul’s Square is hosting Liverpool’s first Fabulous Frost Fair. It promises to be a fantastic addition to the city’s Christmas calendar. It will also give all who work in and around the Commercial District a chance to experience something totally unique and maybe make that special purchase or two.’’

Not only will the fair be a convenient place to shop for local businesses, it will be an ideal opportunity to network with key contacts in an informal environment over a mulled wine and spiced cider and, because we are all about building community and spreading the love we are partnering with Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Appeal.

Save the children

So, the idea is for you to get everyone in your office together, don your best Christmas jumper and come down to St Pauls Square to browse the stalls, sip some cider, sing your heart out and do some serious networking whilst wearing a reindeer head; after all, there’s nothing better than a bit of office banter is there.

Fabulous Friday!!

Oh my word, I can’t believe it!! We are officially in #FFF Month- this year has absolutely flown by and it seems that we have been talking about Christmas for months at Frost Fair HQ (please read, my kitchen table!) so it shouldn’t be a surprise that it is actually under a week away now and people are wanting to know what we’ve got in store for you on the launch night.

Well, without giving everything away we think you’re in for a real treat…

Hillbark is already being given the Christmas treatment and you’ll be the first people to see it dressed for the season!

We will greet you with your goody bag which contains some discount vouchers for several of the stalls as well as lots of other goodies. Sashay on through to the Gorgeous Great Hall, grab your glass of fizz and sample a few canapes whilst listening to some festive tunes courtesy of Hillbarks very own pianist.

If you’re feeling adventurous pose for the photo-booth and get a few snaps of your night before heading down to the beautiful Ballroom and be the very first to browse the stunning selection of stalls and buy or reserve all of your Christmas goodies.

And here’s the reason why….#CCC

Before I start, let me say I have drafted this post many times but haven’t really been able to articulate what it is I want to say but, with the very first Fabulous Frost Fair only 2 days away, I guess it’s now or never.

CANCER.

IT’S TIME TO CALL IT A DAY.

Cancer. It is a word spoken so often that I sometimes wonder if it has lost some of its shock value; people don a pink wig, hold a coffee morning and everyone gives generously because we all know someone who has experience of the horrid, indiscriminate disease. But, until it is knocking on your door, until it is telling someone you really, really love that they might not be here next Christmas or birthday or any drizzly Tuesday which would be lightened by their presence, until you are picturing a world without that very special person it can all be a little detached from your world. It was for me.

I watched the 3 minute documentaries and tutted at how sad it was that a mother might never get to see her children graduate or get married or simply grow up, I saw the adverts asking for £3.00 a month but it didn’t really, truly register until it was in my house, my family, my world.

That might make me selfish but it is how it was. And then it was my world, and it was our mum and it did truly register and it felt pretty terrifying to say the least.

Thankfully, our gorgeous mum is now fit and well and has been hugely supportive of this event. That is thanks to the work of AMAZING doctors and charities and researchers that work tirelessly to find a cure and to support patients and their families every single day that they’re battling this disease.

That’s not to say that there is a cure for everyone at the moment; some are living with and fighting cancer every single day and sadly, some people will still lose that fight. But, more people than ever are beating the disease and, the more funds we can raise to support CCC, the research they do and the patients that use the centre everyday, the better.

ccc

We are so grateful that our mum will celebrate Christmas with her grandchildren and our beautiful cousin will be a bride next year and it is all down to charities such as our chosen Charity, The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Cheers!

Cheers!

We want to help find a cure for all types of cancer and, whilst that won’t happen over night we want to help make the care and the facilities available in the region the best possible. Clatterbridge is renowned for its facilities and research, someone who has benefited from the centre this year, Chris Britton, who can’t speak highly enough of the support he received there:

During my Radiotherapy treatment it’s really brought home how amazing Clatterbridge is, even though us patients are going through the worst time imaginable, the place is filled with joking and laughter. Everyone is very supportive, like we’re all in this together. The staff really help too, they face each day with a smile on their face, providing the best care I could have hoped for.

**********

There is another, very important, part of the story though; what cancer and indeed any serious illness does teach us, is that every day is precious. There is no better time to tell your friends and family that you love them. There is no better time to pick up the phone, invite them out and spend time together.

The Fabulous Frost Fair is an opportunity for you to spend time with your friends and family;

Have a giggle, have a gossip and have a

GOOD TIME.

Apologies for the slush.

Apologies for the slush.

We desperately want all families to be able to enjoy the festive season together which is why we will also have a Wirral Food Bank Donation Station at Hillbark for the whole weekend, it would be the cherry on top of this particularly gorgeous cake if we could deliver some luxuries to those who might otherwise go without. wirral food bank

And, with that in mind we wanted to say a huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to all of our friends and family that have put up with us working all hours, cancelling nights out and, frankly being dreadful friends and partners. We are sorry, we do love you and it has all been for a very good reason.

Come along, It’s what memories are made of!

With all our Love,

The FFF Girls.

Super Sunday for the whole family.

Can you believe that this time in 5 weeks we will be shutting the doors and stifling a sob (and probably a good few yawns!) having hosted the very first #FFF?

Over the last few weeks the interest in The Fabulous Frost Fair has really gone crazy; I’ve overheard people talking about it at yoga, I’ve had people tweeting for tickets and incredibly we have now had to turn away as many stall holders as we were able to book in. We are so sorry to everyone we had to refuse but the demand for space has been incredible. We are thrilled 😉

Right from the outset we have been determined to make this the best Christmas fair in the region and to achieve that aim we wanted to ensure we catered for the whole family.

Christmas-quotes-for-family

For us that meant a stunning location, beautiful products that you can’t find on the high street, delicious food and drink and something to keep the littlies happy…who better to do that than the simply brilliant Creation Station and the totally terrific Celebration Tent?! creation station wirral

That’s right, on Sunday we will have a dedicated crafting area hosted by The Creation Station as well as our very own super duper story tent outside thanks to The Celebration tent.

These activities are TOTALLY FREE and, coupled with checking out our 43 amazing stalls, sampling some mulled wine and mince pies, cookies and cupcakes you couldn’t ask for a more perfect family day out…unless of course you added in Father Christmas to the mix…Yep, that’s right, he’s popping in too so I hope you’ve been nice and not naughty?!

In addition to all of that, we are offering 12 mini photo shoots so you are able to capture the perfect shot for your Christmas Cards…

Kayte has been a photographer for several years and recently we were lucky enough to experience one of her location shoots which was really excellent. Katye was lots of fun, put the girls at ease wonderfully and captured the personality of the girls perfectly.

I would absolutely recommend a session with Kayte, we loved our on location photoshoot (coincidentally in Roydon Park). Have a look at her website for more details and drop her a line if you have any questions.

Kayte has a stall at the fair which will allow you to have a look at her work, book location shoots or purchase gift vouchers which make excellent first Christmas gifts but, to be on the safe side, in terms weather over the Frost Fair weekend we’re focusing on studio shoots.

Kayte has put together a brilliant offer for visitors to The Fabulous Frost Fair but, places are limited so do drop her a line directly if you wish to reserve a spot for a mini photo-shoot to ensure the cutest ever Christmas cards- after all, non of us want to be responsible for this do we…

The mini photo shoots will be done in 20 minutes slots between 10am and 4pm and images will be fully edited and available to view within only a few days, that’s plenty of time to get Christmas presents sorted for the grandparents, aunties, uncles, infact anyone with eyes (is it just me that gives pictures of our children to even the most distant family members- interested or not?!)
If you are interested in this fantastic and limited offer then just email kayte@imagesbykayte.co.uk to book your photo shoot time and pay your £5 retainer which will secure your booking and is then redeemable against any products you purchase.

Kayte has a wide variety of products to display your photographs including coffee table albums, canvases and CD’s including all of your images so, if you fancy some really gorgeous, professional pictures for this years ‘holiday card’ you know where to come don’t you!

Introducing our Venue…

Now we’ve introduced ourselves, we thought it was only fair to pay the same attention to our venue.

The Fabulous (obviously!) Hillbark Hotel and Spa.Hillbark hotel, Fabulous Frost Fair,

We are thrilled to have secured Hillbark as our venue and very much feel that the location sets the perfect tone for the weekend.

Hillbark was built in 1891 by the Hudson family of Hudson Soap manufactures which eventually became Lever Brothers. Apparently based on Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire it is made entirely of wood, and has been describes as one of the finest examples of half timbered Victorian design anywhere in the country.

With gorgeous grounds, stunning views and some seriously mouthwatering menus, Hillbark is a genuinely special place to visit at any time of year.

And, ever since our initial meeting, we have been impressed with the attention to detail and the enthusiasm that Sarah, Helen and the whole team have had for the event and can not wait to see the hotel and grounds transformed into a Winter Wonderland where you can while away the hours browsing, buying and beautifying.

Thank you ladies! 🙂

Our dual treatment room is quite something, with two Jacuzzi baths to lounge in while sipping chilled champagne.

The amazing chefs from Hillbark and their sister hotel, The Leverhulme, will be on hand to demonstrate one or two of their signature dishes which are bound to wow your guests.
